School Readiness

In Term 1 2024 our School Readiness Classes run on Mondays during the school term from 9:30am – 12:30pm.

At Freedom Social Skills, our School Readiness classes provide an opportunity to develop the social skills, school readiness skills, socio-emotional skills and fine motor/gross motor skills necessary for success in a learning environment.

Children are given the chance to learn and build on early social skills such as play, language, turn-taking and requesting from peers. We also focus on developing school readiness skills such as following instructions and completing tasks as well as socio-emotional skills such as expressing emotions and wants/needs in appropriate ways. Children will also be engaged in fine motor and gross motor activities including sports, crafts and academic skills.

Suitable for children aged 3-5 years of age.

Our School Readiness program is centred on the principles of progressive Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), with a qualified Teacher and Board Certified Behaviour Analyst leading the team.

These classes encourage students to interact with others while they play and learn social skills.  We understand that it can be difficult for young learners with autism, developmental disabilities and social challenges, to adjust to new environments which is why our staff prioritise creating a safe space where kids feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgement or criticism.

We strive to provide a supportive atmosphere where students are engaged in meaningful activities while also feeling challenged and empowered by their own accomplishments.

Social Skills for School

  • Early Social Skills help children develop play skills, language skills, turn-taking, requesting from peers
  • School Readiness Skills assist children with the ability to follow instructions and complete tasks.
  • Socio-Emotional Skills help children develop coping strategies for losing, learn to express emotions, communicate wants and needs as well as be able to take a break when needed.
  • Fine & Gross Motor Skills are developed through spots, crafts and academic strategies.

How does school readiness work?

At Freedom Social Skills we operate small-grouped classes run by trained professionals, with the aim to ensure your child always has adequate support to be safe, supported and learn.

Each child has individualised targets and learning to help them meet their developmental goals.

We begin with an Initial social skills assessment for each student undertaken by our behaviour consultant who will agree with the parents on goals specific to each student.

Each week we will work towards meeting these goals through a variety of fun games and activities.

Activities are taught through fun, play-based programs to foster important social skills with peers
